Sunday Skills + Scrimmage
Let It Rain is excited to host our Sunday night skills + scrimmage nights this fall! These sessions were a tremendous value and success last fall. It is an opportunity for LIR girls to get in the gym, get better and get to know their teammates.
FINAL SCHEDULE:
4 - 5 PM - U10/U11 (2031, 2030 grades)
5 - 6:30 PM - U12/U13 (2029, 2028 grades)
6:30 - 7:45 PM - U14-U17 (2027, 2026, 2025, 2024 grades)
We are thrilled that our high school directors Cory Poole and Ryan Antony will be leading all skills sessions for the HS ages. Cory and Ryan will be focused on teaching fundamentals that translate and build into competitive game play. There will be emphasis on moves, skills and strategies that will help all of these girls improve individually and also, create dynamic and fast-paced team play. Cory and Ryan have spent several years coaching at the high school club level, and they fully understand what college coaches look for when recruiting players, specifically evaluating offensive and defensive IQ, skills and ability to create within their own game and for the team.
We are excited that LIR youth director Steve Maselter will be leading the youth sessions with the help of our youth LIR coaches as well. Cory and Ryan plan to lead a few as well! On the youth side we'll also teach the fundamentals that translate into competitive game play. Emphasis on proper form, shooting, footwork, attacking, inviting and playing through contact as well as making offensive and defensive reads with and without the ball. We'll focus on offensive spacing and playing position-less basketball where players are encouraged 'read and take what's given' rather than feel stuck or conformed to set plays. Defensively, we will teach only man-to-man principles as every team will defend this way during the season.
We will host these sessions at the Wisconsin I'm Possible Training facility in Madison located at 5108 Blazing Star Dr., Madison, WI 53718.
Sessions will run every Sunday from October 2 through December 4 (for 10 total sessions.)
The focus will be both skill development and live action games. The first 20-30 minutes will be focused on skills, and the remaining time will be live action games where the girls can put their skills to use. In addition to skills, the LIR coaches will break down important offensive and defensive strategies and concepts to build knowledge as we head into the 2023 season.
The live play competition will vary from week to week but will include 3 v 3, 4 v 4 and 5 v 5 game competitions. For live action games, the LIR coaches will be mixing up teams and competitive situations to challenge the girls and get them working beyond just their age-level teammates.
Please register early! Last year we did reach capacity for each session. Also, don't worry if your daughter can't attend every session - we know the fall is busy! We still encourage her to participate even if she'll miss a few sessions. At this time, our Sunday night trainings are exclusive to current Let It Rain players registered for the 2023 season. If we do not reach capacity, we will open this up to other local girls looking to play!
